TOP XTOP X Bidding

"TOP X" is a bidding format (for Combination Bidding types only) where multiple bidders can win. X represents the number of Units (i.e. quantity of items) available and the total potential number of unique Winning Bidders. Each Bidder can only win one Unit and can only win once per Listing. At the end of the bidding, one Unit is awarded to each of the Top "X" Bidders.

Example 1: (more Bidders than Units)
Assume a Listing uses the Combination Bidding format and has a quantity of 3 Units available with an Opening Bid of $10 and a Minimum Raise of $1. Note that the first Bidder does NOT need to raise the Opening Bid amount. Bidding is logged as follows:

Incoming Bids Outgoing Bid Results
# Bidder Bid Placed Type High Bid Limit (aka Proxy) High Bidder
1 A $15 Limit $10 $15 A
2 B $12 Absolute $13 $15 A
3 C $20 Limit $16 $20 C
4 B $18 Limit $19 $20 C
5 D $25 Limit $21 $25 D
6 A $25 Absolute $25 $25 D

In this example, four unique Bidders placed a total of six Bids. Since there are more unique Bidders than Units available all Units will sell. The results are as follows:

Bidder "D" will win one Unit at $25 (the "displayed" high bidder)
Bidder "A" will win one Unit at $25.
Bidder "C" will win one Unit at $20.

Example 2: (fewer Bidders than Units)
Assume a Listing uses the Combination Bidding format and has a Quantity of 3 Units available with a Opening Bid of $10 and a Minimum Raise of $1. Note that the first Bidder does NOT need to raise the Opening Bid amount. Bidding is logged as follows:

Incoming Bids Outgoing Bid Results
# Bidder Bid Placed Type High Bid Limit (aka Proxy) High Bidder
1 B $10 Absolute $10 $10 B
2 A $15 Limit $11 $15 A
3 B $12 Absolute $13 $15 A

In this example, two unique Bidders placed a total of three Bids. Since there are fewer unique Bidders than Units available all Units will NOT sell. The results are as follows:

Bidder "A" will win one Unit at $13 (the "displayed" high bidder)
Bidder "B" will win one Unit at $12.
